SKIN TO SKIN

From personal experience, I understand the deep, positive impact that skin to skin can have emotionally for both mother and baby but I was still blown away by the evidence in this randomised clinical trial (link below) showing significant and positive effects of early skin-to-skin contact on:

• maintenance of infant temperature in the neutral thermal range

• infant blood glucose

• infant crying

• summary scores of maternal affectionate love/touch 

• breastfeeding at one to three months postbirth

• breastfeeding duration
