Debriefing pregnancy, birth and/or postpartum experiences can make the world of difference to both Mums and Dads.
I know it made the world of difference to me but here's some snippets of published research to back me up:
Emotional Processing and Mental Health: Ayers et al. (2006): A study in the "Journal of Psychosomatic Obstetrics & Gynecology" found those who participated in postnatal debriefing showed significant improvements in emotional well-being. The study indicated that debriefing reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Lavender and Walkinshaw (1998): Published in the "British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology," this randomized controlled trial found that women who had a debriefing session within 72 hours postpartum had a significant reduction in postpartum depression scores at 6 weeks compared to those who did not.
Trauma Reduction: Small et al. (2000) A study published in "The Lancet" demonstrated that debriefing significantly reduced the incidence of PTSD symptoms among those who had experienced a traumatic birth. Those who received debriefing reported fewer PTSD symptoms at 6 months postpartum compared to the control group.
Empowerment and Self-Esteem: Simkin (1992): In her paper published in "Birth," Simkin reported those who discussed their birth experiences felt more empowered and had higher self-esteem, recognizing their own strength and capabilities through the debriefing process.
Did you know that I offer stand-alone debrief sessions for those who are not seeking full doula services but believe they could benefit from this support?
Additionally, I offer healing practices and rituals that can be combined with these sessions.
